Client & Challenge
As the winner of the Fjord Innovation Fund in 2017 for our own War on Waste, we worked with the Sydney-based environmental charity, the Bower, to extend their impact and divert more waste from landfill every day.
The Bower are a Sydney based environmental charity committed to stopping usable household goods from going to landfill. The demand for their services are growing quickly, but they are unable to scale due to their highly manual processes and their niche appeal.
Working with the Bower, our goal was to have a tangible impact on their mission, by making repair and reuse easier than disposal as well as to help change people’s behaviour and attitudes to buying second-hand.
Our challenge was to balance fixing the basics through innovation, taking into consideration that they had no time, money or people to implement what we designed.

What we did and delivered
In 6 weeks developed practical solutions & outputs to help the Bower be more efficient & scale as business. We reimagined their brand and experience, allowing them to reach a more mainstream audience.
•A digital pickup booking tool & inventory management for pre-loved household goods - simplifying their pickup service & reducing manual tasks
•A new brand identity & proposition – reframing the perception of second hand and increasing desirability of the Bower
•A CX Handbook that defines their customer experience, including product innovation, retail experience, new audiences & product categorisation
•A concept for a style-led upcycled product range -to realise value from donated building materials Impact
Impact
The new brand, digital pickup tool and CX guidelines are to help inspire a new future for pre-loved goods. This will bring a shift in the perception of the Bower from being a reuse centre to a service ecosystem that addresses the challenges communities are facing around discarded household waste. Making the Bower services more accessible and desirable will have a direct effect on the amount of waste the Bower can process and therefore divert from landfill.
